Proverbs 15:13-15
“A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness. All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.” When we are joyful, it shows. True joy can only be found in one place, or rather in one Person. Romans 5:11 “And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.” When our heart rejoices in Christ Jesus our Lord, we are filled with joy unspeakable and a peace that passes all understanding. Romans 15:13 “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.” We can be joyful because we are forgiven. Our joy should cause us to want to live more like Him. Romans 4:7 “Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.” We can be joyful because we can trust Him. Our joy should cause us to want to love Him more. Psalm 5:11 “But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.” We can be joyful because we have His Word. Our joy should cause us to want to know more of the Truth through the Scriptures. Jeremiah 15:16 “Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.” A merry heart awaits us when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, and yield each day to His will for our lives.
