Matthew 14:28-29
“And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.” It takes faith to go to the other side. He sent them away, seemingly alone. God will sometimes set us apart to allow us to learn to depend on Him. Matthew 14:22 “And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.” Sometimes God sends us a storm in order for us to step out in faith. He never sends us into the storm alone. He is always there with us in the middle of the storm, even when we do not see Him. Matthew 14:24-26 “But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.” In the middle of our storm, God will speak to us if only we will listen. When we follow the Lord’s command to step out of our comfort zone, He will allow us to walk on water. Only when we get our eyes off of Him will we begin to sink, but He is always there waiting for us to call on Him for help. Matthew 14:28-30 “And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.” We can learn from Peter’s courage to step out in faith. He was the only one that had the faith to even ask to step out of the boat. Who would have thought of such a thing? Only a courageous disciple who trusted that the Master knew what was best for him would ask such a question. It took a lot of faith to even ask for permission. We all know what would have happened if Peter had not asked, and just took it upon himself to jump out of the boat. Jesus could have said no to Peter’s request, but He had a lesson both for him and us today to learn. Miracles can happen if we have the courage to step out in faith.
