Jeremiah 7:23-24
“But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you. But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.” They were warned. Jeremiah 7:3 “Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.” They were told to obey & walk in His ways. “Obey my voice” “walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you” They went backward because they did not listen and disobeyed. “But they harkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.” We have been warned throughout the entire Bible of how we must amend our sinful ways by repenting and believing on Jesus by faith. Mark 1:15 “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” We have also been commanded to obey and walk in the way of the Lord. Deuteronomy 13:4 “Ye shall walk after the Lord your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.” We will also go backward if we do not listen to God by reading His Word or ask Him to help us. On our own we will always go in the opposition direction from where He would have us to be. Neglecting prayer and Bible study will cause us to go backward. If we are not striving to daily spend time with the Lord we are not walking forward, we are not even standing still…we are walking backwards. Progress and growth cannot happen if we are not walking with Him. Which way are you walking today? Bible Reading: Jeremiah 21-22 | John 21 | Psalm 86
