Luke 8:5-8
“A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” God gives the Seed of the Word of God that we are to go out and sow. The Seed must be planted in soil. Every person has a heart of soil within them that is in need of hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. How the soil receives the Word is not up to us, but we still must plant the Seed. Three times within these verses we see the word “some” repeated. Some Seeds will fall by the way side. Some upon a rock. Some among thorns. The Way Side. Luke 8:12 “Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.” Sometimes when we sow, the devil will take the Word out of the hearts of those that received the Seed. The Rock. Luke 8:13 “They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.” Sometimes the Seed springs up quickly, yet because it never took root it withers away when temptation comes. The Thorns. Luke 8:14 “And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection.” Sometimes the thorns of the cares and pleasures of this life get in the way of the Seed, causing it to become unfruitful. But sometimes...there are other Seeds which fall on good ground. Luke 8:15 “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.” Pray for the soil around you. Pray that some Seeds you plant fall upon good ground. And as you pray, remember… Every person has a heart of soil in need of the Seed. Bible Reading: Jeremiah 23-24 | Psalm 22-24
