September 5 - Rehearse It.

1 Samuel 8:21
“And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD.”
 
It appeared that the people had rejected Samuel, but the Lord showed him what was really going on. 
 
1 Samuel 8:7
“And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.”
 
The people wanted a king, simply because everyone else had one. 
 
1 Samuel 8:20
“That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.”
 
They were deceived into thinking that a king would be the solution to their problems.
 
How many times in our lives do we fixate our minds on something or someone and convince ourselves that they have or are the answer? Sounds like our world today. Politicians claim they can fix everything the current person has done wrong in their eyes, yet their agenda is often rooted in their pride and desire for power. 
 
1 Samuel 8:19
“Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;”
 
Samuel heard all the words of the people and chose to do the only thing he knew would be beneficial to the situation. 
 
He took it to the Lord in prayer.
The Scripture says he rehearsed it in the ears of the Lord.
 
He took it to the Lord privately. Not where everyone could see, but in that secret place where it was just him and God. 
 
He sought the Lord’s direction and communed with Him over the matter.
 
In times of doubt, despair, discontent or distress we need only to rehearse it to the Lord. When we are tempted to mull over and over a situation, may we instead take it to the Lord in prayer. 
 
Psalm 18:6
“In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.”
 
Rehearse it before Him today.
