Proverbs 20:26
“A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.” Jesus Christ scattered all of His enemies, and He will likewise scatter ours if only we will submit them to Him. Proverbs 20:27 “The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.” Jesus called His disciples the light of the world; He is that Light within us. We cannot shine without Him. He exposes the sin in our lives and dissolves the darkness. Proverbs 20:28 “Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upholden by mercy.” The mercy of God endureth forever, and His Truth to all generations. Psalm 136:1 “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” Psalm 100:5 “For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” It is because of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed because He has compassion upon us. Lamentations 3:22-23 “It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” His mercy allows us to face every new morning with faith because of his great faithfulness to us. His mercy shields us from getting what we deserve, and His grace bestows so many blessings that we could never earn. We cannot know His grace until we have experienced the Truth of His mercy. Proverbs 20:25
“It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry.” Do we take the things of God and use them for our own gain? Do we rashly make a promise without much thought or prayer? Both of these situations bring a snare, or injury, upon our lives. Holiness instead of haughtiness. Psalm 99:9 “Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy.” God is Holy, and we must worship Him for His holiness. He desires for us to become holy, for He is Holy. There is no pride within Him, therefore we must remove the pride for our lives. Proverbs 18:12 “Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.” Humility instead of haste. Impatience will get us nowhere. God sometimes chooses to make us wait to see how we will react. If we cannot wait while having faith in His timing, can He trust us with what we are waiting for? Wait in faith with a humble heart that He knows what and when is best. Psalm 37:7 “Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.” Honesty instead of humiliation. We must keep our word to God; when we vow to do something for Him, we must not neglect our promise. Be cautious before making any vow that you have no true intention of keeping. Ecclesiastes 5:4 “When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed.” Romans 11:29 “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” Bible Reading: Exodus 25-26 | Matthew 17 | Proverbs 7 Proverbs 20:23
“Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.” A repeated Truth from earlier in the chapter that only further confirms the importance of avoiding divers weights for honesty. God wants us to be honest with Him, with others, and with ourselves. Proverbs 20:24 “Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?” Our steps are ordered by Him; He did not create in us the ability to know on our own what is good for us. Jeremiah 10:23 “O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.” Our hearts may devise us to go in the way of the world, but thankfully the Lord is Able and willing to direct our steps if only we allow Him to do so. Proverbs 16:19 “A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.” When we try to understand which way to go on our own, we are setting ourselves up for disappointment and destruction. Why take that responsibility upon ourselves when He, by His grace, desires to direct us according to His will? Rather than trying to understand, yield to Him today. “Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.” Instead of fighting for revenge, we have the opportunity to allow the Lord to fight for us. Psalm 35:1 “Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.” When the children of Israel were facing the Red Sea with Pharaoh’s chariots behind them, they had nowhere to turn; yet God made a way. If you are facing what seems like a Red Sea today, stand still and wait for God to part the waters like only He can. Exodus 14:14 “The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” With the Lord on our side, we have no need to avenge for ourselves. Romans 12:17-19 “Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.” When we are on the Lord’s side, we have no need to fight on our own. Wait for revenge, for He will take care of it all. Allow your Red Sea experience to deepen your love for the Word of God. Psalm 119:154 “Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word.” Bible Reading: Exodus 21-22 | Matthew 15 | Proverbs 5 Proverbs 20:20-21
“Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness. An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end thereof shall not be blessed.” Regardless of our upbringing, God gives us clear commands about our heritage. Rather than obscure darkness, we can increase the number of our days by honoring our parents. Exodus 20:12 “Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.” God has given us life and the very breath within our lungs. Every aspect of our being is given to us by His grace. Family is a gift of God’s grace. Heritage is a gift of God’s grace. Salvation is a gift of God’s grace. Eternal Life is a gift of God’s grace. Honour the parents or godly influences that He gave you. Any earthly inheritance we receive will fade in time, but that which we receive from God by Christ Jesus cannot be taken away. 1 Peter 1:3-5 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” Choose to live today in light of the grace of God, resting that you have an inheritance reserved in heaven for you. “He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.” There are two types of people that can hinder us walking in Wisdom: Talebearers Sharing is not always a good thing. Those who tell others’ secrets are sure to tell yours too. The best way to stop a secret from being told is to keep it to ourselves. Flatterers There is nothing good about us, so when we receive only compliments from someone, they may have an ulterior motive. Flattery only goes so far before it becomes dangerous. Our mouths can get and keep us in trouble; especially when we allow them to run in the same direction as a talebearer or flatterer. James 3:5-6 “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” James 3:10 “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” In the very first chapter of the Book of Proverbs, Solomon wisely tells us to refrain from giving in to the temptation of others. Proverbs 1:10 “My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.” Meddling only leads us in the wrong direction. Bible Reading: Exodus 17-18 | Matthew 13 | Proverbs 3 Proverbs 20:18
“Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.” If we want to have purpose, we must seek counsel. Where we seek our counsel is imperative to our success. Proverbs 11:14 “Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.” Are we counseled by the Word or by the World? Proverbs 19:21 “There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.” 1 John 2:15 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” Are we directed by the Lord or by lust? Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” 1 John 2:16 “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” We are constantly influenced. Make the choice today to seek Wisdom rather than worldliness. Ask the Lord to show you what needs changed in your life, and determine to follow His guidance. That still small Voice within us should not be ignored, our success depends upon how we react to what He says. Purposefully choose to be counseled through the Word of Wisdom today. “Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman. Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.” The pleasures of sin only last for a season. What seemed sweet at first, soon becomes as sand to taste. Deception is where sin begins. The devil seeks to devour anyone who is unguarded against his devices. When we neglect to dawn the whole armour of God, we leave ourselves open to his attacks. Instead of approaching us in an obvious way, he often subtly comes wrapped up in everything we have ever wanted. Our fleshly desires are his specialty. The serpent knew exactly how to get to Eve. Genesis 3:6 “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.” The devil tempts us today in the exact same way he deceived Eve. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. 1 John 2:15-16 “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” Each day we must choose whether to live in our flesh, or die to ourselves to that Christ may live through us. Sin is still abounding, but God still has a greater solution. Romans 5:18-21 “Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.” The wisdom of this world is deceiving; but God continually offers His Wisdom to all who will believe and receive him.
