oPsalm 119:161
“Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word.” Instead of fearing his persecutors, David focused on his love for Word. Psalm 119:37-39 “Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way. Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear. Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.” When our heart stands in awe of the Word of God, we highly regard the Truth It contains. Those that fear the Lord have a great reverence for His Word. Hebrews 12:27-29 “And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.” Stand in awe of His Word today. Regardless of what may come our way, we can choose to obey the Scriptures. Psalm 4:4 “Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must stand in awe of His Word. Bible Reading: 1 Kings 19-20 | 2 Corinthians 11 | Psalm 130

Psalm 119:160
“Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.” From the beginning, God’s Word has been, and is, True. Genesis 1:1,3 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth… And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” God created the world through His Word, showing the importance and worth in what He says. The Word was present when God spoke the world into existence. John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” When Jesus Christ was born in the flesh, His Deity never diminished. He was “full of grace and truth.” The Word of Truth came to earth and dwelt among us, the Creator among His creation. John 1:14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” The Word of God is as True as the God of the Word. The Scriptures are a pure revelation of Who God Is, and what He can do for His children. Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must remember that the Word is True from the beginning. “Consider how I love thy precepts: quicken me, O LORD, according to thy lovingkindness.” During his prayer, David asked the Lord to consider his love for God’s Word. He had previously expressed his love and devotion earlier in the chapter. Psalm 119:97 “O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.” His love for the Word was shown in his dedication to read, study, and meditate upon the Scriptures. When we make God’s Word a priority, God will reciprocate that passion as He reveals more of Himself to us. As we consider the Word of God, we must consider Him through His Word. Hebrews 12:3-4 “For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds. Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.” To rightly “consider him”, we must refer to the previous verse. Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Where we set our eyes of faith makes all the difference in our walk and work for His glory. May we keep our sight upon the Author and Finisher of our faith. If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must consider Him through His Word. “I beheld the transgressors, and was grieved; because they kept not thy word.” David hated the sin of those around him. He had a burden for others to know and obey the Word of God. Psalm 119:136 “Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.” He was grieved not because of their treatment of him, but rather their violation toward God. Their offense was dishonoring and disheartening to anyone striving to bring glory to Him. Where are our tears? We have lost our sorrow over our own sin as well as the sin of others. Those that profess to be religious, yet walk not in the Ways of the Lord. Actions speak louder than words or professions. Psalm 139:21,23-24 “Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Our sorrow is not to be judgmental, but rather out of concern for the souls of others. Those who live in sin without the chastening hand of the Lord upon their lives are likely living without the Saviour. Deception by religion is prevalent in our churches today. Head knowledge without heart knowledge is to be tragically lost. Matthew 7:20-23 “Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” May we renew our burden to shine the Light of the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ for all the world to hear, but it all starts with our view of sin. Psalm 119:104 “Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must be grieved by sin. “Many are my persecutors and mine enemies; yet do I not decline from thy testimonies.” David knew what it was like to have enemies. King Saul abused his authority over David, and much like today, many followed his example. Psalm 3:1-2 “LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.” Regardless of the persecution he faced, David never turned his back to the Law of the Lord. Instead, he chose to plead to Him for help! Psalm 3:3 “But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.” The Lord desires to shield us from our enemies as well. He only asks that we ask Him for help. We can choose today to not let anything move us from our walk with Him through His Word. Acts 20:24 “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.” As we stand unmoveable, we must be busy about the Lord’s business. Our labour is not in vain if we allow Him to do the work through us! 1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must be unmoveable in our walk in His Word. “Great are thy tender mercies, O LORD: quicken me according to thy judgments.” God’s mercy towards us is a result of His love for us. Many times throughout the Scriptures His mercies are connected with His lovingkindness. The Word of God teaches us that His mercy and love provided our salvation. Psalm 25:5-7 “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O LORD.” Psalm 40:11 “Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.” The Ultimate Example of God’s mercy was displayed in the giving of His Son for us. He is rich in mercy because of His great love for His children. Through Christ we find life, and are given a place to sit at His table in our heavenly home. Ephesians 2:4-7 “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must thank Him for His mercy & love. “Salvation is far from the wicked: for they seek not thy statutes.” When the wicked neglect the Word of God, they reject the God of the Word. Those that do not desire to know God do not desire to know the Scriptures. Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Job 21:14 “Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.” While the wicked reject God, He does not reject them. He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” He welcomes all who come to Him with open arms; but they must first hear the Gospel before they can believe. Romans 10:14-15 “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!” It is up to the righteous to proclaim the Word of God so that the wicked may hear and believe. How will they hear if we do not tell them? Romans 10:16-17 “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must proclaim the Word so that others may hear and believe. “Plead my cause, and deliver me: quicken me according to thy word.” When we finally realize that no one else can help us, but the Lord; we find out that He is all we really need. Our Advocate pleads our cause, because He is the only One Who can. 1 John 2:1-2 “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” He desires to plead the cause for not only our sins, but for everyone. What a shame that He continues to be rejected by those who think they do not need Him. 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” David then makes his own plea, that the Word would strengthen him during his troubles. Psalm 119:143 “Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.” The more we cling to the Word of God, the more faith we will have in His deliverance. We must renew our longing for the Scriptures each day. Psalm 119:40 “Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must plead for the Word to strengthen us in our daily walk with Him. “Consider mine affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget thy law.” In the middle of his affliction, David prayed to be delivered. He remembered what he had read and been taught from the Scriptures. Psalm 119:50 “This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.” Psalm 119:71 “It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.” How comforting it is that when we find ourselves facing affliction, we can ask the Lord to help us! Remembering the Word amidst our affliction will bring deliverance. James 5:13-17 “Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” God may not take the circumstance away, but His Word can deliver our souls from the pain while shifting our focus toward our Deliverer. Psalm 34:17-19 “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must remember the Word amidst our affliction. “Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.” David knew that every Word of God was True, and he had known this since he was a child. When God does something, it lasts forever; and His Word is no different. Ecclesiastes 3:14 “I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.” This is evidence of the eternal security of the believer found in the Old Testament. When God does something, it lasts forever. Those who have been saved at a young age must continue to follow what they have learned. 2 Timothy 3:14-15 “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” The promise that God will never leave us nor forsake us is found in the fact that His Word will endure throughout all generations. God has preserved His Word so that all may know the Truth. 1 Peter 1:23-25 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.” If we want the Lord to order our steps, we must remember that when God does something, it lasts forever.
